초록	관료제의 병리현상 혹은 비효율적인 규칙이나 절차로 대변되는 레드테이프는 주로 공공조직을 대상으로 하여 많은 연구가 진행되어 왔다. 그렇지만 현재 비영리조직에서의 레드테이프는 그다지 학문적 관심을 받는 주제가 아니다. 국내외의 소수의 연구만이 비영리조직에서의 레드테이프에 관심을 기울여 왔다. 본 연구는 비영리조직이 공공조직과의 높은 업무연계성 및 업무목표 유사성으로 인해 그리고 비영리조직 또한 공공조직의 그것과 비교해 정도의 차이는 존재하겠지만, 관료제적 성격을 지닌다는 점에서 상당한 수준의 레드테이프를 가지고 있을 것이라 가정을 한다. 본 연구는 이것이 조직의 성과에 상당한 영향을 줄 것이라는 것을 주장한다. 본 연구는 레드테이프를 복잡한 절차, 지나친 위계화, 업무지연, 과도한 문서작업으로 개념화한다. 그리고 레드테이프가 다측면적인 조직성과(효율성, 고객만족, 자원획득, 공공성)에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 실증적으로 분석한다. 연구결과는 실제로 레드테이프의 하위 개념으로서의 업무지연과 복잡한 절차가 비영리조직의 성과에 부정적인 영향을 준다는 것을 보여준다.
